THE TEAM

Maura Abrahams

Maura grew up in San Francisco and the San Francisco peninsula. After earning a degree in biology at UC Santa Barbara, she returned to the Bay Area and was hired as a quality control scientist at a medical diagnostics manufacturing company. It was there that she met Mark, who was hired a year later as the Personnel Manager. When the couple married in 1984, Maura relocated to Sacramento, where Mark had just completed his first year at McGeorge School of Law. They purchased a small home in Curtis Park – contingent on Mark achieving passing grades – and soon began their first remodeling project together.

In Sacramento, Maura became a research scientist at Microscan, a medical diagnostics company that, at that time, was part of Baxter Healthcare. But finding research monotonous and discovering how much she enjoyed drawing cabinet plans for Mark, Maura left Microscan and began her first art and design classes. She finished the professional certificate program at American River College while raising sons Lee and Paul and learning the design and building trades on the job. She received California design certification in 1993.

Today, Maura represents the design branch of Abrahams Construction. She meets with clients to learn their design needs and wish lists, and then develops concepts and final working drawings that not only respect the older architecture of Sacramento’s established neighborhoods, but also improve the overall function and comfort of her clients’ homes.
